Client Testimonials

Feb 2016; (via the neighborhood networking app, Nextdoor);

I did go see Mark Beam for my heel spurs.  He is helping me very much with my heel spur problem.  He's very helpful, professional, thorough and honest.  He's been actively searching for different techniques to better help me.  He has also been very flexible with scheduling whether I needed a day, evening or weekend appointment.

Before I went to see him, I could barely walk on my right foot without crutches.  In just the few weeks I have been going to see him I am seeing steady progress towards recovery with Mark's help.  I have much less pain in my foot and haven't used the crutches since the first time I saw him.  If you are considering getting a massage, I highly recommend him!

Interview with a Client, May 2016

A potential client approached me about Massage Therapy for her condition in August, 2014.  Medically diagnosed in October, 1985 with Cervical Dystonia (in the Parkinson's family), this medical condition causes some of the muscles in the head and neck to spasm, constantly pulling this client’s head down and to the right, while indirectly affecting the positioning of her shoulders.

The image below demonstrates that in 2011 she had a noticeable head tilt to the right, while pulling her right shoulder up (due to the muscle constrictions); however, in March, 2016 (1 ½ years into regular massage therapy sessions), it's more natural for her head to remain in a non-tilted, level position and for her shoulders to remain level.

This client has received weekly, 30 minute sessions in order to learn relaxation techniques, loosen tight muscles and retrain her brain by increasing the usable range of motion in her neck.

The nearly immediate benefits of massage therapy for this client included:

-  Self-reduced medications for tremor activity and pain

-  Improved range of motion, with less noticeable pain almost immediately

1. Can you describe what your daily life was like prior to starting massage therapy treatments?

Before massage therapy, I had arthritis pain in my hands and feet as well as very little range of motion in turning my neck and head to the Left.  I tried almost daily to slowly move my head to the left, to the right, up and down, but the pain (and stiffness) was difficult to move through, thus I would only complete a few repetitions.

2. Can you describe what your daily life is today, after receiving treatments for more than one year?

I feel some of my reluctance and limitations today are remembrances of the pain felt before treatment began, but overall, with the work my massage therapist does and the relaxation techniques he’s helped me with, I can now do things that my body thought it could no longer do.  The pain itself is so much less than ever before and my “condition” doesn’t seem hopeless any longer.

3. What has been the biggest impact massage therapy has made in your life?

I feel much less anxiety and nervousness in daily life; for example, I can more confidently interact with others when I am out and about.  Through these sessions, I now feel more Normal.

Mark was great. I HIGHLY recommend. He solved the cause of my pain by asking probing questions, listening closely, and then trying a series of massage techniques and positions. No pain or discomfort during the massage. Took a day or two, but then the pain from the pinched nerve was gone. Wish I had tried Mark sooner, rather than the chiropractor and doctor.

Mark was very accommodating and did an excellent job with body work. The office space was cold upon arrival and he provided heated massage bed, hot towels, and extra blanket to ensure a comfortable massage. It was terrific. I was comfortable and warm.
